The 15th Annual Sandy Sprint - 4.27.19
The Awesome Avengers will once again unite with over 4000 others to participate in the Sandy Sprint Superhero 5k/10K at the Philadelphia Museum of Art on April 27, 2019.
It is with immense gratitude that I write this for the 4th year in a row. There have been a couple recurrences, a couple rounds of treatment and a few surgeries. Who cares? I AM HERE and I am forever grateful.
Our team’s mission has not changed. We will walk, stroll, run, jog (whatever you want to call what we do) and donate to support those who are fighting, speak for those who have fallen silent, and provide for those who are working to end ovarian cancer.
My ask to everyone who plans to walk this year is to sign up early and recruit a family member or friend to join us. The event is as inspirational as it is educational for those who participate. If you can’t join us, please consider donating. Your donation makes a real difference in the more than 22,000 women who will be diagnosed this year.
Ovarian cancer is the fifth leading cause of women in the U.S. Currently, 50% of women diagnosed die from the disease within 5 years. When diagnosed in advanced stages, the chance of 5-year survival is only 45%. October 2019 will be my 5-year anniversary as a survivor.
The Sandy Rollman Foundation is a non-profit organization created as a tribute to Sandy Rollman after she passed away in May 2000. I have seen firsthand how dedicated the foundation is to helping to conquer ovarian cancer. In 2017 and 2018, there were 3 new drugs approved by the FDA for treatment of ovarian cancer. With your support, we can, and we will continue to advance education and research to stop this disease.
We can’t do anything without having fun. I plan on reserving a bunch of rooms for us so we can go to Phila. and stay the night before. We also plan to order long sleeve shirts for the team (you get a t-shirt with your registration too) to go with the superhero socks we wear each year.
Thank you for your generous donation of time, money and support. I am eternally grateful to have the greatest support system of family and friends anyone could ask for.
I truly could not do this without you.

That perches in the soul -
And sings the tune without the words -
And never stops - at all."
